The UC Irvine Outreach Clinics is a non-denominational organization that is committed to delivering high quality medical care to individuals who have limited access to health services and insurance. We have recently moved our operation to the Lestonnac Free Clinic and serve Santa Ana, Tustin and neighboring communities. We strive to provide comprehensive care to our patients by offering health care services, wellness education, social services, basic medications, referrals, and, if they are eligible, assistance in obtaining health care coverage. While we would like to serve everyone, our clinic is intended to catch those who fall between the cracks of the current health care system, the uninsured.

The clinic is completely run and supported by students under the guidance of our medical director, Dr. Emily Dow. We aim to provide a collaborative and respectful environment where patients, health professionals, and students work together and learn from one another. The UC Irvine student volunteers represent a broad range of studies, from medical and nursing to undergraduate and graduate. At the clinic, student volunteers work in interdisciplinary teams alongside community collaborators and under the guided supervision of licensed practitioners.

Mission

The UC Irvine Outreach Clinics are dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of individuals and families ineligible for or unable to access existing programs, while inspiring future health professionals to explore and understand community-based, patient-centered practice in a multidisciplinary environment.

Goals

Our goals are to provide a higher standard of comprehensive medical and preventive care for our patients by filling gaps in health coverage, increasing utilization of existing community resources, and promoting the health of our patients in a manner consistent with the needs of the community. In addition to providing service to the community, students will develop an understanding of and appreciation for community-based medicine in a setting of collaborative practice.

Values

The UC Irvine Outreach Clinics is committed to promoting CARE:

  • Collaborative interactions between patients, students, community members, and health professionals that lead to better health outcomes.
  • Advocacy through patient empowerment and health education.
  • Respect for our patients, their families and our volunteers.
  • Ethical and responsible medical services for those who need them most.
