“Caring for the Underserved Today” Elective

All health professional students will be required to attend the course elective entitled, “Caring for the Underserved Today” to be a volunteer at the clinic. Undergraduates are required to attend as a part of their course requirement. This course will introduce students to the transdisciplinary approach required for underserved medicine. As part of this elective course, health professional students will collaborate under the guidance of faculty and community leaders as they explore the topics of health policy, chronic disease, health promotion, and international medicine. Students working in the Outreach Clinic should understand and practice the concepts of empowerment and cultural humility.
