Medical students are a vital part of the volunteer effort at the UC Irvine Outreach Clinics. In addition, we hope that they understand that the clinic is completely student-run, and many of the behind-the-scenes work must eventually be turned over to students. They can get involved by joining various committees, ranging from fundraising to volunteer coordinating, and take on a leadership role within the clinic.

Roles and Responsibilites

While at the clinic, the medical student’s most important priority should be treating the patients we see with the utmost respect and professionalism. Since our goal at the clinic is to provide the highest standard of care for our patients, we expect our medical students to take this responsibility seriously. They are expected to dress professionally and be prepared with a stethoscope and whatever notes they require for history taking. MS1s and MS2s will be paired with an MS3 or MS4 during the history-taking process. MS3s and MS4s are expected to guide the MS1s and MS2s. Once completed, the pair of students are expected to fill out pertinent information on the chart and also present to one of the attending physicians. The attending will then accompany them to complete the physical exam, diagnosis, and referral portion of the visit. We are excited to have you volunteer with us!
