Integrating Students, Faculty, and Community
The UC Irvine Outreach Clinics will serve as an unique educational program. Medical students, undergraduate, graduate, and nursing/nurse practitioner students will gain vital experience in primary care medicine, public health, community service, and administration of health care. Student volunteers will learn about all aspects of clinic operation and participate in health promotion. Health professional students will be involved with case management by developing treatment plans under the supervision of attending physicians and faculty mentors in order to provide patients with the information they need to reach their best health outcome. Health science graduate students and interested volunteers will take charge of enrolling patients in patient assistance programs that provide free medication to those who fall under a certain limit of annual income and are uninsured or lack prescription coverage. In addition, our relationship with community groups such as the Latino Health Access Promotoras and the Lestonnac Free Clinic gives us the amazing opportunity to provide the highest quality of continued care to the many underserved populations of Orange County.
